Commemorative days: European Day for Healthy Food and Cooking

COMMEMORATIVE DAYS | EUROPEAN DAY OF HEALTHY FOOD AND COOKING
We mark today in our calendar the European Day of Healthy Food and Cooking highlighting the PRR Harvest. Led by MORE Colab – Collaborative Laboratory Mountains Research, this project has been planting an important seed in the field of #sustainable food: the importance of family gardens.

Integrated into family farming practices, the family gardens, known as “home gardens” or “quintais” by most of the Portuguese, encourage the consumption of less caloric foods, members of the food pyramid of the Mediterranean Diet, one of the most sustainable, and benefit consumers, farmers and the environment. Among other activities, PRR Harvest focuses on promoting the use of sustainable practices in family farming, along the value chain, such as the use of innovative agro-ecological methods and practices, according to the principles of organic production.

The European Day for Healthy Eating and Cooking is celebrated on 8 November in the Member States of the European Union (EU) as part of a wider campaign to combat obesity, Encouraging EU citizens to eat a balanced diet and exercise more.

Projects | PRR arvest | composting

Result of a process started in November 2024 and through a proximity action held at the Community Gardens of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), took place yesterday, September 2, 2025, with the delivery of compost, a demonstrative action of the Composting project PRR HARVEST.
Through the reuse and valorization of organic waste generated on campus, an organic compound was formulated whose distribution could not begin in a place other than that of its creation: the IPB Community Gardens.Starting from the premises “from the land to the plate” and “from the field to the people”, this is a social and educational project and, as such, the objective of this action is the promotion of new habits and routines in subsistence agriculture, focusing on the circularity of vegetable garden waste. This week’s initiative also included the distribution of the step-by-step #guide “Hands to Composting”, enabling horticulturists to replicate the PRR HARVEST compound, thus perpetuating the impact of the project led by MORE Colab – Collaborative Laboratory Mountains of Research.
We sow knowledge to harvest health, through actions together and for the community, encouraging the adoption of agroecological practices, circular and sustainable.
